Manage and Organize Your Work More Effectively
Project Folders in TypingMind offer your team members a simple way to manage and organize their work. Whether you're working on code, writing a story, or planning a personal project, Project Folders help you keep everything in one place, with the right context and tools for each task.
What Are Project Folders?
A Project Folder is a dedicated workspace where you can:
- Assign a specific AI model or AI agent for the project
- Add custom system instructions to guide responses
- Upload documents relevant to the project
- Connect to external data sources using Dynamic Context
Everything inside a Project Folder—chats, tasks, references—shares the same settings and resources. This makes it easier to stay focused and ensures that the AI works with the right information every time.
What You Can Do with Project Folders
Assign a Model to Each Project
You can choose a specific AI model to use in a Project Folder. Any new chat within the folder will automatically use the assigned model, though you can switch it manually at any time.
Set a Default AI Agent
Assigning an AI agent means that all new chats in that project start with that agent. It saves time and maintains consistency in how the assistant interacts with you.
Define Context and Instructions
You can set project-specific system instructions—such as tone, style, or goals. These instructions are added on top of the global system and agent-level settings, so each project can have its own unique behavior without affecting others.
Upload Documents
Project Folders let you upload reference materials—like reports, specs, datasets, or templates—directly into the folder. These files are embedded into the system instructions and used by the AI in all chats within that project.
Use Dynamic Context
You can connect external data sources through Dynamic Context. This allows the AI to pull in live or custom data from APIs or databases and use it during conversations, useful for anything from research to RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) applications.
How to Use Project Folders
1. Create a Project Folder
Click the "+" button in the left sidebar and name your new project.
2. Configure the Settings
Inside the Project Folder, go to “Project Settings.” From there, you can:
- Select a default AI model
- Assign an AI agent
- Write system instructions specific to the project
- Upload files
- Add endpoints for Dynamic Context
Detail guideline can be found at Project Folders
3. Start a Chat
To start a conversation within a project, click the "+" next to the folder name. The new chat will use the project’s assigned model, agent, and context settings automatically.
Example Use Cases
Coding Projects
Use a folder to manage development tasks. Upload API docs, code snippets, or logs to help the AI offer better assistance with debugging or development.
Writing and Content Creation
Organize story outlines, character bios, and style guides in a folder. The AI will use these resources to help you write more consistently and stay aligned with your creative goals.
Personal Projects
Track hobby-related tasks like planning a trip, managing a collection, or learning a new skill. Upload relevant materials and notes so everything stays connected.
